The Austrian Mint

Transportation

The obverse of the new coin shows a dynamic depiction of an V8-cylinder motor designed in Austria. The inscription in the silver ring reads: ”Republik Österreich” (Republic of Austria), “100 Schilling”
The reverse has a design of four major types of transportation: the airplane, the semi-truck, the private car and the train. All four are moving towards the viewer from a distant point, symbolizing speed and development. Below is the date “2001”. The two artists, Thomas Pesendorfer for the motor and Andreas Zanaschka for the four means of transport, have achieved modern and contemporary lines as well as depth and movement in what could otherwise have been fairly static designs.
